Cast Your Circle

Consider hosting your next class, workshop, or meet up at Necessary Magic!

Make it happen here.

The Workshop

Rent our workshop room for events at $30/hour. (Fee waived until May—see below)
The workshop can be used for gatherings of up to 15 people. It’s a great space to hold a candle-lit ritual, a workshop, or a crafting class.

The Reading Room

Rent the private reading room for 1-on-1 client work for $15 an hour or $50 per day.
The reading room is quite small! It is a perfect intimate, stylish atmosphere.

To reserve space, please submit your request using the form at the bottom of this page and we will get back to you. All requests are subject to approval to ensure they align with the mission of the shop and our clientele.

Call for Proposals

We are seeking proposals for 1 to 2 hour classes, workshops, lectures, study groups or event ideas on a variety of subjects (see list below). We are waiving all room rental fees until the beginning of May, so now is a great time to propose an idea! We’re looking for proposals now to start filling in slots through April.

In exchange for waving the fee, Dani and Annie would love to sit in on your event if we aren’t working in the shop (we are not included in your student count).

Read more below about our policies and how to get started submitting an event idea.

Marketing Your Event

We highly recommend marketing your event! Turnout in Astoria is notoriously unpredictable and highly weather-dependent. To help drive attendees to your event, we recommend the following tips and outlets:

• Post flyers around town! Recommended venues: Necessary Magic, Sleeper Coffee, Blue Scorcher, Fort George, Obelisk, Video Horizons, Cambium Coffee, Astoria Coffee House and Bistro, the Co-op, and Fred Myer (by the bathrooms)

• Paid advertising: The Current (monthly), Hipfish (monthly), the Astorian

• Free calendar listings: The Coast Weekend, Ophelia, Hipfish

Post your event on your social media and tag @necessary_magic or add us as a collaborator. We will reshare your post to our stories.

Policies

Attendance and Space

The maximum number of students we can accommodate is 15 and depends on how much space you might need for your particular class. Feel free to come by and see the space to help visualize your class set up.

Scheduling

You can work with Dani Rose to schedule your event after you submit your proposal below. We can host events on Saturday, Sunday, and some evenings during the week, especially Thursday and Friday. Mid-week is also available if you think that you can attract attendees those days. Events must end by 6pm PT because that is when the shop closes most days, but please ask about flexibilities if your event requires it.

Collecting Fees

If you’ll be charging for your event, you set and are responsible for collecting your own fees from attendees.

Registration

We can provide a registration portal that attendees can use to sign up for your event. We charge $5 per event for use of the registration portal.

Marketing Policy

You are primarily responsible for marketing your event (e.g., creating marketing materials and distributing them). Necessary Magic will support your marketing efforts by mentioning your event in our newsletter (~700 subscribers), posting it on our events calendar and social media, and hanging flyers you provide in the store.

Submit Your Event Idea Here

We’ll review your submission and get back to you asap. If your event is a good fit for Necessary Magic, we’ll reach out to you for marketing materials and additional info.
